Dryer Duct Replacement in Frederick, MD

The Right Materials Make All the Difference

Not all dryer ducts are built the same. Some homes have old flexible vinyl duct. Others have foil flex duct that’s sagging, torn, or falling apart. Some have rigid duct that’s rusted through or separating at the seams after years of use.

If your ductwork has failed but the route is still good, you don’t need a full reroute—you need a replacement. We remove the old materials and install heavy-duty 26-gauge galvanized steel rigid duct, properly supported and sealed. Same path, better duct.

When Do Dryer Ducts Need to Be Replaced?

The Duct Is Made of Non-Code-Compliant Materials

Vinyl and plastic flex ducts were never appropriate for dryer vents—except for the short transition from the dryer to the wall. They resist airflow more than smooth rigid duct. They tear easily during cleaning. And if a fire starts inside, it burns right through.

That’s why building code doesn’t allow them in attics or behind walls and ceilings. If a fire burns through the duct, it can take the whole structure with it.

If your home has these materials, replacement isn’t optional—it’s necessary. It’s a fire hazard, and any decent home inspector will flag it when you sell.

The Existing Rigid Duct Has Deteriorated

Even properly installed rigid dryer duct doesn’t last forever. Clogs cause condensation and condensation causes rust. Seams can separate. Connections loosen. If your rigid duct has deteriorated to the point where repairs don’t make sense, full replacement is the answer.

The Duct Is Disconnected Inside the Wall or Attic

Sometimes we find dryer ducts that have come apart somewhere in the run—blowing hot, lint-filled air into wall cavities or attics. If the disconnection has caused additional damage or the duct is in poor condition, replacement makes more sense than reconnecting failing materials.

You're Renovating and the Current Route No Longer Works

Home additions, kitchen remodels, deck installation, and other renovations sometimes block or complicate existing vent routes. Rerouting creates a new path that works with your updated layout.

You're Getting the Vent Cleaned and We Find Problems

We often discover duct issues during routine dryer vent cleanings. If we find non-compliant materials, severe deterioration, or damage that can’t be properly repaired, we’ll let you know replacement is the better option.

What We Replace It With

We install heavy-duty 26-gauge galvanized steel rigid duct and elbows—using the same methods and materials required by building code for dryer exhaust systems.

Why Rigid Steel?

  • Fire Resistance: Steel contains a lint fire far longer than flex or semi-rigid materials
  • Durability: Won’t sag, tear, or deteriorate like flex duct
  • Smooth interior: Less airflow resistance, less lint accumulation
  • Heat resistance: Rated for dryer exhaust temperatures
  • Code-compliant: Meets International Residential Code requirements
  • Long-lasting: Properly installed rigid steel lasts for decades

Proper Installation

We screw and tape each joint and seam and install supports at proper intervals—all in accordance with the International Residential Code. Every connection is secure and sealed. No loose joints, no air leaks, no lint escaping into your walls.

What's Involved in a Duct Replacement

Assessment

We inspect the existing ductwork and determine the extent of replacement needed. Sometimes only a section has failed; sometimes the entire run needs to go.

Access

Depending on where your duct runs, we may need to access attic space, crawlspaces, or open sections of wall or ceiling. We plan our access points to minimize disruption.

Removal

We remove the old ductwork—vinyl, foil flex, deteriorated rigid, whatever’s there. We dispose of it properly.

Installation

We install new 26-gauge galvanized steel rigid duct along the existing route. Every joint is screwed, taped, and supported. We minimize bends where possible and ensure proper airflow throughout the run.

Exterior Termination

If the existing vent cover is in good condition, we connect to it. If it’s damaged or substandard, we replace it with a quality cover—typically one of our powder-coated magnetic covers that seal tight and resist pests.

Dryer Connection

We connect the new duct to your dryer with a code-compliant semi-rigid aluminum transition duct. If needed, we can install a recessed dryer box.

Test the New Vent for Proper Airflow

We test the new vent to ensure that backpressure  and exhaust airflow is in an acceptable range for safe and efficient operation.

Patch Drywall and Cleanup

When we cut into walls or ceilings, we reinstall the cut-out drywall using furring strips. We don’t spackle or paint—we stay in our lane and stick to what we’re good at.

Replacement vs. Reroute

If your duct route is reasonable—not excessively long, not full of unnecessary bends—replacement makes sense. You keep the same path and just upgrade the materials.

If the route itself is the problem—too long, too many turns, exits in a bad location—a dryer vent reroute might be the better investment. We’ll assess your situation and give you an honest recommendation.
