Dryer Takes Too Long to Dry in Frederick, MD

Get Back to Fast, Efficient Drying

Remember when your dryer dried a load of towels in 45 minutes? Now it takes two hours or multiple cycles, your clothes still feel damp, and your energy bill keeps climbing.

Dryers don’t slow down from age — when drying takes too long, something is restricting airflow. The most common cause is a clogged dryer vent.

We’ve been cleaning dryer vents and fixing slow dryers in Frederick since 2017. We find the cause, clean the vent, and make any needed repairs so your dryer works the way it used to.

Why Your Dryer Takes Multiple Cycles to Dry

A dryer is a simple machine. To dry clothes properly, it only needs to do two things:

Make Heat

Heat evaporates moisture from your clothes, turning it into water vapor that can be carried out of the dryer.

Move Air

A blower pushes that hot air through the drum, across the wet clothes, and out through the dryer vent to the outside.

When either of these functions is compromised, drying slows down fast. Anything that restricts airflow — through the dryer or the vent — or reduces heat will cause longer dry times and multiple cycles.

Common Causes of Slow Drying

Clogged Dryer Vent (Most Common)

When a dryer vent is clogged or restricted, the blower can’t push moist air out effectively. Moisture stays trapped inside the drum, and clothes take much longer to dry — often requiring multiple cycles.

Restrictions aren’t always inside the duct itself. We frequently find stuck or clogged vent flaps, especially on roof-mounted vents. Bird nests and clogged bird guards at the vent exit are also common causes.

Clearing these obstructions restores proper airflow, improves drying performance, and reduces unnecessary wear on the dryer. A dryer vent cleaning service will get that done for you.

Other Dryer Vent Issues

Even a clean dryer vent can cause airflow problems if it’s poorly designed. Vents that are crushed, excessively long, have too many turns, or are undersized can restrict airflow regardless of how clean they are.

We also frequently encounter dryer vent booster fans installed in the vent line. These are no longer permitted by building code for residential use. Lint accumulates on the fan blades, restricting airflow and creating maintenance and safety issues. In many cases, these fans aren’t cleaned properly — or at all — during routine vent cleaning.

We inspect the entire vent system and identify design issues that may be contributing to slow drying, even when the vent itself appears clean. If necessary, we can do a dryer vent repair or duct replacement.

Dryer Internal Lint Buildup

Air doesn’t just flow through the vent — it has to move through the dryer itself. Lint buildup inside the machine, especially around the lint trap housing and blower assembly, can restrict airflow just as much as a clogged vent. Even if you clean the lint screen after every load, lint still escapes the filter and accumulates inside the dryer over time.

We test airflow through the dryer and, when needed, disassemble the machine to remove internal lint buildup to get it running like new again. Cleaning the dryer internally also removes lint buildup around the heater — a common cause of dryer fires.

Broken Blower

The blower is responsible for moving air through the dryer and out the vent. In some cases, the blower wheel can crack, break, or come loose from the motor shaft. When this happens, the blower may still spin, but airflow is greatly reduced — causing clothes to take much longer to dry. A broken or loose blower is easy to diagnose and is usually a straightforward repair.

Faulty Sensors

Modern dryers use sensors to monitor temperature and moisture levels inside the drum. When these sensors fail or read incorrectly, the dryer may shut off too early, run without enough heat, or misjudge when clothes are dry — leading to longer dry times or damp loads.

Common problem areas include the regulating thermostat, thermistor, and moisture sensor (humidistat). We test these during diagnosis if sensor failure is suspected.

The Urbana Dryer Vent Cleaning Difference

When you call us about a dryer that’s taking too long, we don’t just clean the vent and leave. We perform a complete airflow and performance assessment to find — and fix — the real problem.

Our process includes:

  1. Test airflow — We measure how much air is actually moving through the dryer and vent system.
  2. Inspect the entire vent run — From the dryer to the exterior termination, we check for restrictions, damage, and design issues.
  3. Clean the vent thoroughly — We clean the full length of the vent using professional equipment.
  4. Clean inside the dryer — When needed, we disassemble the dryer and remove lint buildup from the lint trap, blower housing, drum area, motor, and heater.
  5. Check the vent connection — We make sure the transition hose isn’t crushed, kinked, or improperly installed.
  6. Verify performance — We test airflow again before we leave to confirm drying performance has been restored.

If we find a mechanical issue — a failing heating element, thermostat, or sensor — we can repair that too.

One visit. One bill. Your dryer back to normal.

Why Choose Us?

We’re the only company in the area that repairs dryers and cleans vents — and we’ve been doing both since 2017. That combination matters, because most dryer problems start in the vent.

We’ve worked in homes across Frederick and Montgomery Counties, and the entire 270 Corridor — old homes, new construction, everything in between. We know the common issues: builder shortcuts, code violations, vents routed through crawl spaces, up three stories and on roofs. We’ve seen it all and fixed it all.

Unlike general appliance repair companies or jack-of-all-trades handymen, dryers and dryer vents are all we do. No carpets, no HVAC ducts, no refrigerators. Just dryers — and the vents connected to them. That focus makes us faster, more accurate, and better equipped to solve your problem the first time.

Every repair is guaranteed. We also offer discounts for seniors and veterans.
