Bird Control Service in Frederick, MD

Get Birds Out of Your Vents—And Keep Them Out

Birds love your home’s vents. Dryer vents, bathroom fans, kitchen exhausts—they’re warm, sheltered, and perfect for nesting. The problem is they block airflow, create fire hazards, leave biohazard messes, and can fill your home with horrible smells when things go wrong.

We remove bird nests from vents, clean and disinfect the ductwork, and install quality bird guards so they can’t come back. We’re licensed Wildlife Damage Control Operators in Maryland, so we handle the job legally and humanely.

Vents We Protect

We remove bird nests and install bird protection on all types of exhaust vents:

The most common—and most dangerous—place for birds to nest. A clogged dryer vent is a fire hazard. We clean the entire vent system, not just the nest, and install code-compliant bird guards. Learn more about bird removal from dryer vents.

Cheap flexible ductwork makes these easy targets. Birds tear through the plastic, leave droppings everywhere, and create smells that seep into your bathroom. We clean or replace the duct and screen the vent cover. Learn more about bird removal from bathroom vents.

The last place you want bird droppings, dead birds, and mites—right above where you cook. We remove nests, sanitize the ductwork, and protect the vent so it doesn’t happen again. Learn more about bird removal from kitchen vents.

Birds nesting in combustion vents can cause carbon monoxide issues. They can also cause your furnace to not work. Simple steel screens keep them out without restricting airflow. Learn more about bird guard installation.

Our Bird Control Services

Why Birds in Vents Are a Problem

Bird nests in dryer vents block airflow, causing lint buildup, overheating, and potential fires. This is the most serious risk.

Foul Odors

Dead birds decompose. Bird droppings accumulate and smell. These odors seep into your home and are difficult to eliminate without professional cleaning.

Health Hazards

Bird droppings carry bacteria and fungi. Birds can also carry mites that migrate into your home and bite your family.

Appliance Damage

Blocked vents cause dryers to overheat and blow fuses. Bathroom fans burn out. Microwaves and range hoods can get so contaminated they need to be replaced.

Licensed and Humane

We’re licensed Wildlife Damage Control Operators in Maryland. That means we follow state and federal regulations for handling birds, eggs, and nests.

Most birds in vents are European Starlings or House Sparrows—invasive species that can be removed without restriction. Native species are protected, and we follow the rules: we won’t disturb active nests of protected birds until babies have fledged.

When we remove baby birds, we relocate them to a temporary nest nearby (usually a modified milk jug) so parents can continue caring for them. It’s the humane approach—and it works.

Why Choose Us

We’re not just a wildlife company that dabbles in vents. We are a vent cleaning business—vent systems are our specialty. When you call a typical animal control company, they remove the nest and leave. We remove the nest, clean the entire vent, disinfect it, inspect for damage, and install proper bird protection.

We’ve seen the aftermath of half-done jobs: nests not fully removed, screens that clog with lint, damaged ducts left in place. That’s not how we operate.

We also repair and replace vents, clean dryers internally, and handle dryer vent cleaning and dryer repair—so if the birds caused other problems, we can fix those too.

Common Questions About Birds in Vents

How do I know if birds are nesting in my vents?

The most common signs are scratching or chirping sounds coming from the wall or ceiling near the vent, visible nesting materials (grass, twigs, feathers) poking out of the exterior vent cover, birds flying to and from the vent opening, and droppings or stains on your siding below the vent. You will notice the loudest activity in the early morning. If your dryer suddenly takes longer to dry clothes or your bathroom fan seems weak or starts making noises, a nest could be blocking airflow. A foul smell usually means birds have been there a while—or something has died inside.

Birds that nest in tight spaces like vents are called cavity nesters. In the Howard County and Carroll County area, the two most common vent nesters are European Starlings and House Sparrows. Both are invasive species—not protected by federal law—which means we can remove their nests at any time, even with eggs or babies present. Native songbirds occasionally nest in vents too, but starlings and sparrows account for the vast majority of calls we get.

Yes, in several ways. Nests in dryer vents are fire hazards—a clogged dryer vent can cause a dryer to overheat, increasing fire risk and increasing the chance of your dryer breaking.  Blocked bathroom and kitchen vents cause fans to overheat and burn out. Bird droppings carry bacteria and fungi that can become airborne and circulate through your home. And birds sometimes carry mites that migrate indoors when the nest is disturbed, causing itching and skin irritation. Furnace and fireplace vents are especially dangerous—blocked exhaust can cause carbon monoxide to back up into your home.

Yes. We handle the complete job: remove the nest, clean and disinfect the entire duct, clean bird droppings off your siding, and install a bird guard so they can’t come back. One visit, one bill, problem solved. If you already had the nest removed elsewhere and just need protection, we can do guard installation only.
