New Dryer Vent Installation in Ellicott City, MD

No Vent? Wrong Vent? We'll Build One That Works.

Not every home has a proper dryer vent. Some older homes never had one—the dryer just exhausts into a bucket of water or straight into the attic. Some have vents that were combined with bathroom exhaust fans, which isn’t up to code. And some laundry rooms were added without anyone thinking about where the dryer exhaust would go.

We install new dryer vents from scratch—designing the most efficient route, cutting through whatever’s in the way, and building a vent that actually works. If your home doesn’t have a dedicated dryer vent, we’ll fix that.

When Do You Need a New Dryer Vent?

You're Adding or Relocating a Laundry Room

Moving your washer and dryer to a new space means you need a vent that reaches the exterior from that location. We evaluate your options and build the shortest, most efficient route possible.

Your Dryer Exhausts into a Bucket or the Room

Indoor dryer vent kits—the ones with a bucket of water to catch lint—are sold at hardware stores, but they’re not a real solution. They dump moisture and fine lint particles into your laundry room, creating air quality issues and potential mold problems. Besides that, the water in the bucket stinks. A proper vent exhausts to the outside.

Your Dryer Vents into the Attic or Crawlspace

We find this more often than you’d expect. Someone ran a duct from the dryer but never connected it to an exterior termination. Hot, moist, lint-filled air blowing into your attic causes mold, rot, and fire hazards. This needs to be fixed with a proper vent to the outside.

Your Dryer Vent Is Combined with a Bathroom Fan

Building code requires dryer vents to be dedicated—not shared with bathroom exhaust fans or any other system. If your dryer shares a duct with another exhaust, you need a separate vent installed.

Your Laundry Room Has No Vent at All

Older homes sometimes have laundry hookups but no vent infrastructure. If there’s no duct and no exterior termination, we build the whole system from scratch.

The Builder Ran the Vent 40 Feet in the Wrong Direction

Sometimes we find laundry rooms on exterior walls where the vent could go straight through—but the builder ran it across the attic and out the roof instead. If a much shorter, more efficient route exists, we can build a new vent and abandon the old one. Sometimes we can use some of the old vent and reroute the rest.

Our New Dryer Vent Installation Process

Evaluation and Planning

Every installation starts with an assessment. Where is the laundry room? What’s the shortest path to an exterior wall or roof? What obstacles might be in the way—wiring, HVAC ducts, beams, plumbing? We discuss your options, come up with a plan, agree on a price, and measure more than once before cutting anything.

The Reality of Hidden Obstacles

Here’s the truth: we can’t always see what’s inside your walls and ceilings until we open them up. We make educated guesses based on experience and how your home is built, but sometimes we need to cut an exploratory hole in the drywall to confirm the route is clear. If we hit an obstacle, we adjust the plan.

Cutting Through Walls and Exterior

Once we’ve confirmed the route, we cut through whatever’s in the way—drywall, exterior sheathing, and siding. We cut through brick, concrete block, vinyl, aluminum, stucco—whatever your home is made of.

Vent Installation

We install heavy duty 26-guage galvanized steel rigid ducting and elbows only. We screw and tape each joint and seam and install supports, all in accordance with the International Residential Code for dryer exhaust systems. We minimize bends wherever possible and follow code requirements for materials, connections, and total equivalent length.

When drywall cuts are necessary, we plan carefully to keep them to a minimum. We can’t make promises, but we keep it as clean as possible.

Dryer Box Installation

We can install premium steel boxes in the wall behind the dryer. These boxes create a recessed cavity for the transition duct to enter the wall and connect to the vent. These boxes allow dryers to be moved all the way back to the wall.

Exterior Termination

We install a quality vent cover at the exit point—typically one of our powder-coated magnetic covers that seal tight, keep pests out, and can be cleaned from inside the laundry room. Budget options are also available.

Reconfigure the Dryer Exhaust

Sometimes we must make the dryer vent exhaust out the side instead of the back in order to make a new vent install functional or nicer to look at. We disassemble the dryer and reconfigure the exhaust duct to exit the side of the dryer.

Dryer Connection

We connect the new vent to your dryer with a code-compliant transition duct. If needed, we can install a recessed dryer box so your dryer sits flush against the wall.

Test the New Vent for Proper Airflow

We test the new vent to ensure that backpressure  and exhaust airflow is in an acceptable range for safe and efficient operation.

Patch Drywall and Cleanup

When we cut into walls or ceilings, we patch the drywall when we’re done. Your home looks the way we found it—just with a vent that actually works. We reinstall any cut-out drywall using furring strips, but we don’t spackle or paint. We stay in our lane and stick to what we’re good at.

Short Vents Are Better Vents

If your laundry room is on an exterior wall, the best option is usually punching straight through to the outside. A 2-foot vent with no bends will outperform a 40-foot vent through the attic every time.

Shorter vents mean:

  • Faster drying times
  • Less lint accumulation
  • Easier maintenance
  • Lower fire risk
  • Fewer problems long-term

We always look for the shortest, most direct route. Sometimes that means ignoring what the builder did and starting fresh.

What Sets Our Installations Apart

We Specialize in Dryer Vents

This is all we do. We don’t clean carpets, clean air conditioning ducts, or clean chimneys. We work on dryers and dryer vents. That’s our business. Since 2017, we’ve serviced over 9,000 dryers and dryer vents in in the DMV area. We are very familiar with construction issues in new homes and the challenges of old and even historic homes.

We Treat Your Home Like it was Ours

We make a deliberate effort to consider how your home will look and how much painting you may need to do when we’re done. We protect your floors and carpets and clean up everything when we’re done. We leave your home better than we found it.

We Cut Through Anything

Brick, block, vinyl, aluminum, stucco—we have the tools and experience to terminate your vent wherever it needs to go.

We Work in Difficult Spaces

Attics, crawlspaces, tight mechanical rooms, steep roofs—we have experience working in the spaces other contractors avoid. We take all safety precautions and have a perfect safety record. This is something we are extremely proud of.

Magnetic Vent Covers

We install top of the line powder-coated magnetic covers that look and perform way better than anything you would find at a home improvement store. They seal tight, keep pests out, come in multiple colors, and can be cleaned from inside—no ladder required. HOAs almost always approve them.

Dryer Modifications if Needed

Sometimes we need to reconfigure the dryer to make the vent work—changing the exhaust from rear to side, or flipping the door direction to swap washer and dryer positions. We handle that. Most companies don’t.

Code-Compliant Work

Every installation meets International Residential Code requirements—proper effective length (efficiency), proper materials, secured connections, sealed seams, insulated where required, and correct support intervals.

Minimal Disruption

We plan our routes to minimize drywall cuts. When we do need to open walls or ceilings, we patch it up when we’re done.
